Personal Transportation Device Policy
Policy Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance on appropriate use and storage of non-battery, battery operated, and motorized personal transportation vehicles such as bicycles, skateboards, e-Scooters, and e-Bikes. This policy does not apply to strollers, wheel chairs, ADA-related mobility devices, or the like.

Policy Statement
Farmingdale State College recognizes the benefits of personal transportation devices as a convenient and eco-friendly means of transportation. The College is also committed to the safety and well-being of its community members. The objective of this policy is to balance the convenience of personal transportation devices and maintaining a safe environment for all individuals on campus.
Non-battery powered devices such as bicycles, skateboards, scooters, skates (roller/in-line), unicycles, tricycles and the like shall not be used within any College building for any reason. Individuals are prohibited from using these devices or engaging in tricks (sliding, grinding, jumps, etc.) anywhere on College grounds involving College property or structures (i.e. stairs, steps, railings, benches, building entrances, ramps, walls, sculptures, statues, or monuments).
Due to the specific and immediate response required to safely contain a battery fire or malfunction, all versions of motorized and/or battery-powered personal transportation equipment/devices are not allowed inside any campus buildings for any reason. This includes devices such as e-Bikes, e-Scooters, battery operated skateboards, hoverboards, etc.
The safekeeping of personal transportation devices is the responsibility of the owner. Devices shall not be parked or stored against or fastened to any facility, utility, or in a manner obstructing the College’s daily functions. It is recommended that these devices be stored on the College’s bike racks. These devices shall not be used or stored in a manner that will cause an obstruction, safety, or tripping hazard to the College community. Securing any device in hallways, corridors, stairwells, or doorways is prohibited.
To ensure the safety of all individuals on campus, riders of personal transportation devices must yield to pedestrians, wear appropriate protective gear, operate at a prudent speed not to exceed 10 miles an hour on sidewalks and pedestrian thoroughfares, and adhere to all laws and regulations relevant to their specific device. It is the responsibility of the rider to review and comply with laws and regulations pertaining to the personal transportation device(s) they are operating.
Violations of this policy should be reported to University Police and may result in disciplinary or criminal action.
