RamTutor Online Tutoring
The Tutoring Center at Farmingdale State College is pleased to offer RamTutor, a new online tutoring service designed to pair FSC students with tutors from the College.
- RamTutor offers appointment based, individual tutoring sessions with professional tutors from the Tutoring Center.
- Please carefully read all of the policies and procedures listed below before scheduling your online RamTutor tutoring session.
This service is available to currently enrolled Farmingdale State College students for courses in which they are currently enrolled. It is provided free of charge by the College.
RamTutor has a set schedule of days/times when the tutors are available. Please review the tutoring schedule at the bottom of the page for more detailed information.
The staff who tutor on RamTutor are professionals employed by the Tutoring Center at Farmingdale State College. They are recruited, hired, and trained by the Tutoring Center. They possess at least a Bachelor's degree (several have advanced degrees), must have at least one year of teaching or tutoring experience, and undergo online tutor training.
Appointments must be scheduled through Bookings at least 24 hours in advance and may be made up to 30 days in advance. Students will receive an automated e-mail listing the requested appointment date and time. Prior to the appointment, they will receive a confirmation e-mail from the tutor with a link to access the tutoring room. Appointment requests sent via e-mail will not be accepted.
To schedule an appointment, please click on the "Schedule Your RamTutor Appointment" button at the bottom of the page, which will direct you to the RamTutor Microsoft Bookings page. The booking page will allow you to select the subject area, tutor, and preferred appointment date and time, and state the nature of your request. If a particular day or time is grayed out, it means the tutor is not available; please select an alternate day/time.
Please note: students must login using their FSC e-mail account in order to book the appointment. Appointments booked from non-FSC e-mail addresses will not be accepted.
The default duration of an online tutoring session is 50-60 minutes. In order to have the service remain accessible to the greatest number of students, appointments in excess of one hour / back-to-back appointments will not be accepted.
Furthermore, students will only be able to schedule a single appointment per tutor per day. Back-to-back/double bookings or appointments with multiple tutors at the same time will be cancelled. Please be advised that all appointments are not recurring (students will need to book an appointment for each desired session).
Students are required to provide at least 24 hours' notice for canceling or rescheduling an appointment. This can be accomplished by clicking "Manage booking" in your confirmation e-mail from Microsoft Bookings, or by sending an e-mail to OnlineTutoring@farmingdale.edu. Students who fail to attend their online tutoring session without first notifying the tutor or Tutoring Center professional staff will be marked as a "no show" and may be subject to restrictions as to future online tutoring appointments.
Tutors are NOT permitted to complete assignments for you, assist with graded assignments (such as homework, take-home exam, etc.), or directly provide you with answers. This is in accordance with the College's Academic Integrity policy. Farmingdale State College staff are permitted to view online tutoring sessions for compliance with this policy. Failure to comply with this policy could result in loss of online tutoring privileges, and in extreme cases, a referral to the Office of the Dean of Students.
Similar to on campus tutoring, students are expected to come to their sessions prepared with specific questions/concepts in which further clarification is needed. Tutors are NOT teachers and are not responsible for teaching students course content. Students should schedule a session after first seeking assistance from their course instructor. Tutors reserve the right to end a session early if the student is not adequately prepared. Farmingdale State College professional staff are permitted to monitor online tutoring sessions for quality control and compliance.
After the appointment has been scheduled through Bookings, the tutor will send a separate e-mail confirming the appointment with a link to the online tutoring room. You will simply need to click on the link to access the tutoring room.
Still could use some help? Email us and we will get back to you shortly.
