How to Use Wait-listing During Registration

Wait-listing is an option for students to get “in line” for courses that have filled/closed. Students who attempt to register for a class that is full or ‘closed’ may put themselves on a waiting list. When a seat becomes available, an email notification will be sent to the student at the top of the waiting list via their FSC email. The student has a 48-hour time limit from the delivery of the notification, not the receipt, of the email to add the class. Note: During this 48-hour period, no other students will be able to register for the available seat. However, you must register for the class within the 48-hour time limit, otherwise the system will move to the next student on the list.  While on the waitlist, you should check your Farmingdale State email account often.

Important Notice: 1) Students cannot waitlist themselves for multiple sections of the same course and 2) They cannot be registered for a section and waitlist for another section of the same course at a different time.

Deadline to place yourself on a waitlisted section is two weeks prior to the start of the semester. You will no longer be able to place yourself on a waitlist after this deadline. However, if you are on a wait list after the deadline, you will continue to have an opportunity to register for the class through the end of the first week of classes, if a seat becomes available .

Deadline to place yourself on the Waitlist:

Spring 2025 - January 10, 2025

Summer Session A, C and E: May 09, 2025,  Summer Session B: June 20, 2025

Below is a list of waitlisted courses for the Summer 2025 semester:

For a course that has waitlist enabled, the wait list will become available as soon as the section fills up. It will remain available until the wait list capacity is reached, at which point the class will close completely. Waitlist will close two weeks prior to the start of the semester.  You will remain on the waitlist until the end of the Drop/Add period (first week of classes). After the Drop/Add period, the waitlist option will be disabled.

Every department has the option to waitlist their courses. However, not every department will participate in waitlisting. A list of waitlisted courses can be viewed in "What Courses are on a Waitlist?" There are different waitlist maximums. If a wait list becomes full, the class will appear as closed. Internships are not waitlisted since prior approval is required.

You are not considered officially registered for a class that is waitlisted. Credits will only apply if a seat becomes available and you officially register for the class.

You should finalize your schedule by no later than the first week of classes.

The maximum credits allowed for each semester is Fall/Spring-18 credits, Winter 4-credits, Summer 14-credits. You cannot exceed the maximum credits allowed including waitlisted courses.

You can be waitlisted for multiple courses, but not multiple sections of the same course. Also, you cannot be registered for a section and waitlist for another section of the same course at a different time.

·Log into SSB, and select Search for Classes.

·If you see numbers below the columns listed as WL Cap (Waitlist Capacity), WL Act (Waitlist

Actual), and WL Rem (Waitlist Remaining), this means there is a Waitlist on the section.

Example, CRN 12345 shows: WL Cap = 5-there are a maximum of 5 seats available for wait-listing.

WL Act (Actual) = 2-there are two students currently on the waitlist for this section.

WL Rem (Remaining) =3–there are3 seats still available for wait-listing.

Example:

When the waitlist max has been reached:

WL Remaining =0: there are 0 seats available for wait-listing.

If the class you are trying to register for is full, and has an open waitlist, you can log into Banner SSB, and select: STUDENT > REGISTRATION>ADD OR DROP CLASSES > REGISTRATION TERM.

Add the CRN and click the SUBMIT CHANGES button. (as you would for adding any other course).

The result produces a Registration Add Error: Example: “Closed --0 Waitlisted” (meaning that the

course is full, and there are no students on the waitlist).

In the Action box, click on the drop-down menu, and select “Waitlisted”, and click the SUBMIT CHANGES button. NOTE: If you leave the action box as None, you will NOT be added to the waitlist.

Your Student Detail Schedule shows that the course is waitlisted, the date you placed yourself on the waitlist, and your priority position on the waitlist.

You are not guaranteed a spot in the class by adding yourself to the Waitlist. You can only enroll if another student drops the course and you meet all eligibility requirements at the time enrollment is processed. You only have 48-hours to enroll into the class before the seat if offered to the next student on the wait list.

Waitlists will be turned off two weeks prior to the beginning of classes. At that time, you will no longer be able to put yourself on a waitlist. However, students who are already on a wait list, will continue to have an opportunity to register for the class, if a seat becomes available through the end of the first week of classes.

When a seat becomes available in a waitlisted class, students who have put themselves on a wait list for a specific class will automatically be notified by the student email system.  The notification is automatically sent to your Farmingdale State College email account. The subject of the email is: Waitlist Notification and will include the CRN #.

The email lets you know that a seat has become available in the waitlisted class, and that you need to register for the class before the stated deadline (Date/Time), or the seat will be offered to another student (sample notification email content is below):

Dear James W Smith,

A seat has become available in CRN 26814 EGL 102 Composition II-Writing Literature. You have until MM/DD/YEAR 01:02 PM to register for the course.

You must log into OASIS and register for the course before the deadline or you will be removed

from the waitlist, and the open seat will be offered to another student.

When you receive a notification that a waitlisted seat has become available, you must:

1. Log into SSB, within the 48-hour timeframe

2.Fin d the waitlisted class, on your schedule (in the Add or Drop Classes

worksheet).

3. Select “**Web Registered**”, from the drop-down menu.

4. Click on the SUBMIT CHANGES button, to register for the open seat.

You must meet several eligibility conditions to get on the class Waitlist. All holds and registration restrictions will still apply to be eligible to waitlist a class. You will be restricted for the following reasons:

1.      prerequisites and co-requisites restrictions. You must meet the prerequisites requirements to waitlist. You must waitlist for any co-requisite courses at the same time, i.e. BIO 130T/BIO 130L.

2.      a specific major restriction

3.      a hold that prevents enrollment i.e. Business Hold.

Reminder: You must address any error messages you receive. Students who successfully waitlist, will remain on the wait list for the period of 48-hours from the delivery of the email notification.

You should address restrictions immediately by contacting your advisor or the Registrar’s Office at 934-420-2776 or via email at regoffice@farmingdale.edu

If you are on a waitlist and are notified via email of an available seat, but do not register within the 48-hour timeframe, you will be removed from the waitlist, and the available seat will be offered to another student. To get back on the waitlist, you must re-register for the course’s waitlist.
If you are no longer interested in remaining on a wait list you should drop the waitlisted section from your schedule.
