Limited Space at Clinical Sites

Each clinical site affiliated with the MLS program will train between one and six students during the clinical practicum. The number of students accepted into the program may exceed the number of clinical sites available for training students. Should the number of students ready for clinical placement at any given time exceed the number of spaces available, the students will be assigned a clinical affiliation based on their expected graduation date and total grade point average. Total grade point will not, however, determine the location of the clinical affiliation. Because of these circumstances students may be placed on a waiting list, if necessary, and will be assigned the next available site.

Note: No student with a GPA below 2.5 will be permitted to complete any of the clinical internships (MLS 236, 483, 491-4).

Service Work Policy at Clinical Sites

After demonstrating competency, students may be permitted to perform procedures under the qualified supervision of the clinical affiliate staff. However, students are not permitted to take the place of staff at clinical sites. Each affiliation agreement addresses this point. Hours spent at the clinical sites are scheduled during weekday hours only. Voluntary, unpaid phlebotomy is not permitted at the clinical sites.
