Annual Events
A hallmark of the Center for Criminal Justice Studies is its commitment to connecting students with the profession beyond the classroom. Through a series of annual events – including career fairs, distinguished lectures, research presentations, and community engagement initiatives – the Center creates opportunities for students to learn from practitioners, expand their professional networks, and engage with the most pressing issues facing the criminal justice field today.
The Center for Criminal Justice Studies hosts an annual Criminal Justice Career Fair that connects students with professionals and recruiters from a wide range of criminal justice agencies and organizations. The event provides students with opportunities to explore career pathways, learn about internships and employment opportunities, build professional networks, and gain valuable insight into the skills and qualifications sought by employers throughout New York and beyond.
Hosted annually in the Spring semester.
The P.O. Mark Ellis Lecture Series honors the legacy of Farmingdale State College Criminal Justice alumnus Mark Ellis ('97), a New York City Police Officer who made the ultimate sacrifice while rescuing victims during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and was posthumously awarded the NYPD Medal of Honor. Established by the Center for Criminal Justice Studies, the annual lecture series brings distinguished criminal justice leaders, practitioners, and scholars to campus to share their experiences, inspire future professionals, and engage students in meaningful discussions on contemporary issues in public safety and justice. Through this event, the Center celebrates Officer Ellis's legacy of service while fostering professional development and civic engagement among the next generation of criminal justice leaders.
Hosted annually in the Fall semester.
