About Us

History of the Center for Criminal Justice Studies

The Center for Criminal Justice Studies (CCJS) at Farmingdale State College was created in response to a growing demand for high-quality, workforce-ready professionals in law enforcement, courts, corrections, intelligence, and community-focused justice careers.

FSC has long been recognized for its applied, career-centered education, and the development of the Center marked a new milestone in the college’s commitment to justice-oriented academic programming.

Initially designed to support a small number of students interested in policing and public safety, the Center quickly expanded as faculty expertise grew and student interest surged. Over the years, CCJS has become a multidisciplinary hub that brings together faculty specializing in forensic science, intelligence analysis, criminology, constitutional law, research methods, corrections, and environmental crime.

Today, the Center oversees two bachelor’s degrees, an associate degree, and a growing portfolio of research, student organizations, internships, community partnerships, campus events, and faculty-led initiatives. CCJS is now a driving force for student engagement and academic innovation at FSC, helping students prepare for meaningful careers while contributing to the advancement of justice, safety, and community well-being.

Mission

The mission of the Center for Criminal Justice Studies is to cultivate ethical, informed, and highly skilled leaders who are prepared to serve in a wide range of criminal justice professions.

We achieve this mission by:

• Delivering experiential, applied education that combines theory, hands-on training, and professional development.
• Engaging students in research and analytical inquiry that strengthens evidence-based decision-making in justice systems.
• Building strong partnerships with justice agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders to create meaningful pathways for internships, fieldwork, and employment.
