Current Construction Projects and Photos

Sinclair Hall Renovations:

The "Rehabilitate Sinclair Hall" project (SUCF Project No. 261049-00) involves extensive renovation and upgrades to the building. Sinclair Hall will be receiving a complete renovation to accommodate the growing number of students and their needs. The project includes abatement and demolition of parts of the exterior, such as glazed aluminum systems, doors, and masonry walls, as well as interior components. The existing membrane roofing system will be replaced, and the building’s exterior envelope will be improved with new aluminum framed curtain walls, storefront systems, and insulated panels. The interior will undergo a complete gut renovation to transform the space into a modern academic facility, with upgrades to HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems, and the installation of a fire sprinkler system. The project will also include site improvements, utility upgrades, and a new steel-framed, 2-story addition.

Notable progress on this project includes the completion of the geothermal wells and the near completion of the new exterior windows. Interior walls are framed, and electrical and plumbing work is complete; new electrical and HVAC equipment is awaiting connection, and sheetrock installation has begun. The forecasted completion is set for the first quarter of 2027.

Steam Distribution Replacement:

The Steam Distribution Replacement Phase 2 project, SUCF Project No. 261045-00 at Farmingdale State College, involves the demolition and removal of the existing steam distribution system to make way for a more efficient system. The scope of work includes removing plumbing and mechanical piping in various buildings, the Heating Plant, and Utility Tunnels, as well as demolishing pipe racks, lighting fixtures, and selected portions of the Tunnel. Additionally, the project covers the removal of direct-buried piping and certain site items. The contractor will be responsible for providing all necessary labor, materials, and equipment, and will ensure that all demolished materials, unless marked for salvage, are removed from the site. As of Q1 2026, Phase A is 80% complete, and we are ramping up for Phase B later this summer. The project is expected to be completed by Q4 2027.

Roosevelt Hall Renovations:

The Roosevelt Hall Renovation Project (SUCF Project No. 261002) involves a comprehensive overhaul of a 72,000-square-foot building constructed in 1960. The project will include extensive interior and exterior work, such as hazardous material remediation (lead, asbestos, and PCB caulk), structural repairs, and upgrades to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Major improvements will also include new interior finishes, upgraded HVAC and fire protection systems, a new hydraulic elevator, and exterior enhancements such as reconfiguring walls and installing energy-efficient features. The renovation will modernize the building to provide additional student spaces, including a new multi-purpose room. The project is expected to meet LEED™ Silver certification standards for sustainability and is forecasted for completion in the third quarter of 2025. New Computer Science Building

The College is excited about the continued progress on the new, state-of-the-art Computer Sciences Center Building. The approximately 52,000-gross-square-foot, three-story facility will support the Division of Computing and house programs in Cybersecurity, Security Systems, Computer Programming and Information Technology, and Computer Science, providing students and faculty with cutting-edge learning and research spaces.

Construction officially began in September 2025 with site fencing and contractor mobilization. Since that time, the site has been cleared, underground utility work has advanced, and excavation has been completed. Crews are currently installing the building foundations and advancing surrounding site improvements, including parking lot work and related infrastructure. As foundation work progresses, framing and vertical construction will follow, allowing the campus community to see the building take shape above ground.

The modern facility will include classrooms, specialized computer and network security laboratories, seminar spaces, faculty and administrative offices, student lounges, and collaboration space for industry partners and campus events. Sustainability is also a key component of the project. The building will be Farmingdale State College’s first Zero Net Carbon Ready building and will feature a geothermal heating and cooling system, along with energy-efficient building systems and sustainable design features.

This project represents a significant investment in the College’s academic future and the continued growth of its technology-focused programs. As with all major construction projects, schedules remain flexible and may change due to weather, site conditions, or other unforeseen factors. Completion is currently anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2028.
We look forward to sharing progress updates as this landmark project continues to develop.

Laffin Hall Welcome Center

Laffin Hall is undergoing a major first-floor renovation to create a new Welcome Center that will serve as a welcoming gateway for prospective students, families, and campus visitors. The project will transform the existing lobby and Admissions areas and create a new home for the Disability Services Center, while providing updated, accessible spaces and modern building systems. Improvements to the north and south entrance plazas will further enhance the building as a primary point of arrival to the campus.

Construction is currently underway, with the majority of demolition complete and utility work in progress. Work will continue with the construction and fit-out of the new interior spaces and associated building and site improvements. Beneficial Occupancy is targeted for early summer 2027.

Campus Commons Renovation

Campus Commons is being upgraded to a wonderful office space to accommodate Human Resources and Procurement. With the new design, we will be able to sense its historic use and meaning while having a modern, efficient workspace. Install a new HVAC system, façade, metal roof with light towers, and surrounding landscape. Progress on this project includes electric and plumbing under-slab rough-in. Substantial completion of the building is currently projected for Q2 2027.
