University in the High School

Farmingdale State College helps bridge the gap between high school and college-level study through University in the High School (UHS). UHS allows students to earn college credit, at reduced tuition, for a college-level course they take at their high school. These credits can be used to pursue a degree at Farmingdale or transferred to another institution.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

University in the High School allows students to earn Farmingdale State College credit while taking approved college-level courses at their own high school. UHS courses are taught by high school instructors who have been approved by Farmingdale State College and follow FSC academic standards.

Once you register for UHS credit, you are officially beginning a college academic record with Farmingdale State College.

For the 2026–27 academic year, UHS courses cost $70 per college credit.

Students who qualify for the Income-Based Fee Reduction Program pay $35 per credit.

For example:

3-credit course: $210 regular / $105 reduced
4-credit course: $280 regular / $140 reduced
Some students may also have their fees covered through a school, grant, or other third-party payment program.

No. Your UHS credits become part of an official Farmingdale State College transcript, whether or not you ultimately attend FSC.

If you attend Farmingdale, your credits are already part of your FSC academic record. If you attend another college or university, you can request that your official Farmingdale transcript be sent there for transfer-credit evaluation.

UHS credits are Farmingdale State College undergraduate credits and may be considered for transfer by other colleges and universities.

Acceptance at other SUNY institutions is typical, and FSC has found that courses completed with a grade of C or better are accepted by a broad range of public and private institutions. However, the receiving college ultimately determines whether and how a course will apply toward its degree requirements.

Students should always check the transfer policies of the college they plan to attend.

Students register online during the designated UHS registration period.

You will:

1. Create or log into your UHS account.
2. Complete a UHS registration request.
3. Select the course or courses offered at your high school.
4. Upload prerequisite documentation when required.
5. Obtain parent/guardian verification.
6. Submit your registration.
7. Complete payment by the published deadline, unless your fees are covered by an approved third party.
Your high school will provide registration information, and current deadlines are also posted on the UHS website.

UHS registration deadlines are firm. Late and retroactive registrations are not accepted.

Being enrolled in the high school class does not automatically mean you are registered for Farmingdale State College credit. You must complete the UHS registration process by the published deadline.

Some do.

Because UHS courses are actual Farmingdale State College courses, the same academic prerequisites that apply to FSC students also apply to UHS students.

Depending on the course, you may be asked to provide documentation such as a transcript, report card, prerequisite course grade, or Regents examination score when you register.

Yes. Every UHS course for which you successfully register becomes part of your permanent Farmingdale State College academic record, and the final grade becomes part of your FSC GPA.

In some circumstances, your high school course grade and your FSC UHS grade may be different because the college course must follow the grading standards established by the Farmingdale academic department.

Dropping the high school class and withdrawing from the Farmingdale State College course are not automatically the same thing.

If you want to withdraw from UHS credit, you must notify the UHS Office in writing. Depending on when the withdrawal occurs, the course may appear on your Farmingdale transcript with a W, and you may remain responsible for some or all of the UHS course fee.

Students considering a withdrawal should contact the UHS Office as early as possible.

Your high school transcript is not a substitute for your Farmingdale State College transcript.

If you attend another college, you must request an official FSC transcript and have it sent to that institution. Transcripts are not automatically sent when you graduate from high school.

If you attend Farmingdale State College, your UHS coursework is already part of your FSC academic record.

No. UHS charges are classified by Farmingdale State College as program fees rather than tuition, so participating in UHS does not reduce your future financial-aid eligibility.

Because the charges are fees rather than tuition, UHS payments are also not eligible for a 1098-T tax form.

Your UHS instructor or your high school's UHS contact is often the best first stop for course-specific questions.
