Alumni Spotlight: Skylar Pipitone

Farmingdale State College’s Criminal Justice Program is designed to prepare students for a range of careers beyond policing. Throughout the program, students will encounter courses meant to expand their knowledge of law enforcement, the criminal justice system, and the various career opportunities within them. Whether you are interested in becoming a crime analyst, lawyer, a security consultant, or pursuing another career in the criminal justice field; Farmingdale State College Criminal Justice Program will provide the foundation to help students reach their goals.

For Farmingdale State College alumna Skylar Pipitone, that foundation led to a career in criminal intelligence. After being drawn to Farmingdale, originally due to its close proximity to home and its criminal justice program, she enrolled in courses and began working towards a goal she has had since she was young. While at Farmingdale, she stated that she was given a practice police exam, which helped her immensely by introducing her to the realities of civil service testing and preparing her for future opportunities.

The knowledge and skills Skylar gained at Farmingdale continue to benefit her career today as a research analyst for the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office. She says the Criminal Justice Program helped her develop critical thinking, time management, and organizational skills, which she uses daily as she supports complex criminal investigations. The work Skylar is doing, from analyzing digital evidence and writing intelligence reports to working with attorneys and investigators reflects the type of hands-on, career oriented education students receive as part of Farmingdale’s Criminal Justice Program.

Skylar also stresses the importance of taking advantage of the opportunities available in the program. She explains the importance of making connections with professionals in your field, as you never know what opportunities may arise from them. Her story is an example of how the Criminal Justice Program prepares students with the abilities, knowledge, and professional foundation to pursue meaningful careers across the field of criminal justice.
