Mission
The mission of the Dental Hygiene Program at Farmingdale State College of New York is the education of competent dental hygienists; who have the knowledge, professional judgment, and technical experience to provide comprehensive quality dental hygiene care. In the pursuit of excellence, the Department of Dental Hygiene will direct its expertise toward the student as it teaches the basic and clinical sciences. High quality patient care and service to the community will remain an integral part of our professional responsibility. In fulfilling our role of service to the profession, the Dental Hygiene Department will strive to be a local and regional resource of knowledge, seeking innovations for the advancement of dental hygiene education and practice.
Goals
- To prepare students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive dental hygiene care.
- To enable the students to develop expertise in health promotion and disease prevention.
- To develop students’ sense of professionalism as health care providers.
- To provide high quality patient care that is evidence-based and patient-centered.
- To serve the community by increasing awareness and providing access to quality and affordable preventive oral health care.
- To remain an important local and regional resource for the transfer of new knowledge, improved techniques, and new technology.
- To provide leadership, advocacy, support, and assistance to the profession of dental hygiene.
- To pursue and participate in scholarly activities that advance the profession of dental hygiene.
