Program Context and Mission

Program Mission:

The Sport Management program prepares students for ever-widening professional careers in the sport management industry. Our program provides students with fundamental and advanced-level courses taught by expert, experienced faculty in this dynamic and academically rigorous subject area. In conjunction with advisors, students may tailor their degree program to suit their career goals and professional development. Optional internships are available to sport management students throughout their academic tenure to support their work in the classroom.

Program Goals:

1. Graduates will have knowledge of the global and complex sports industry.

2. Graduates will have knowledge of integration of the special nature of sports, management and marketing theory, and administrative principles.

3. Graduates will be able to demonstrate competency in the management and leadership dimensions of sport.

4. Graduates will be able to analyze and synthesize information/data and present their findings in a coherent manner.

5. Graduates will be regular contributors to sport management and/or related fields.

6. Graduates will exhibit an understanding of the necessity for personal integrity, ethical behavior, cultural awareness and lifelong learning.

Brief Description of Student Population:

Farmingdale State College enrolled a total of 10,106 students in the Fall 2025 of which 41.7% female and 58.2% male. The average age of enrolled students was 22 years, with 60.88% between the age of 18 to 21 and 39.22% with an age of 22 and over. Full time students make up 80.14% of the total student population with 19.86 % attending part time. Farmingdale State College enrolls students primarily from Suffolk and Nassau Counties on Long Island, with 93% of graduates staying in New York after graduation. Of these, 81% work on Long Island, 16% work in New York City and the remainder are employed in other parts of the state. (FSC Six Months After Graduation Survey, 2024-2025).
