Italian Film Classes-Damian Caracciolo
"Taking Farmindale State College's Italian Film classes was probably some of the best decisions I've ever made. I’ve taken Italian Cinema and Italian Horror, both taught by Professor Vincenzo Selleri. Before I took his classes I used to dread writing anything, now I look forward to it. He made writing essays fun! I would struggle with organization and putting my logic into words, his input would help me revise and rewrite so I could write my thinking process clearly onto paper.
Not only that, but the way he teaches is also great. Prof. Selleri makes certain that not only do we learn about film, but what we should be learning as a whole— history, culture, society, social justice, philosophy, reflection, etc.
Lastly, thanks to taking these classes, I got accepted into a psychology internship in Sicily because of Professor Selleri’s help."
Mandarin Chinese learning-Victoria (谭文丽)
"Before starting Chinese at Farmingdale State College, I already had a strong interest in the language and had begun studying it on my own. Taking classes through the Modern Languages Department helped me turn that interest into real progress, building a solid foundation in speaking, reading, and writing.
I am especially grateful to Dr. Ai for emphasizing the importance of learning Chinese characters. I would not have achieved my current level of fluency without that foundation.
I recently had the opportunity to travel to China, where I was able to communicate with locals and confidently order food in Chinese. This showed me that what I learned in the classroom could be applied in real-life situations.
I currently work in New York City, where I have the opportunity to work alongside Chinese colleagues. I am able to communicate with them daily and complete work tasks using the language. I am grateful for the support I received at Farmingdale, and I hope my experience encourages other students to pursue language learning.
路是自己走出来的,未来掌握在自己手中。"
