Foreign Language Proficiency Exam
The foreign language exam is offered 3 times per Spring and Fall semester (6 times per year).
Languages offered: Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Mandarin), Ethiopian, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovak, Spanish, Turkish, and Urdu.
This exam is for native speakers only. Students must be fluent in their language and should be able to read and write in the language.
The exam is divided in three parts:
- A translation of text from English to the target language. Aprox. 500 words.
- A translation of text from the target language to English. Aprox. 500 words.
- A 250-word essay, written in the target language, on a topic selected by the evaluator.
The exam cannot be given verbally. Written translation only.
There is a fee of $120.00 for the exam payable at Student Accounts. Students can only take the exam one time and it is a Pass/Fail grade. Upon receiving a passing grade, the student will receive 3 credits in Foreign Language. The exam is given in Memorial 204. Two weeks prior to the chosen exam date, students will meet with Dr. Matilde Fava, or Dr. Eugenio Villarreal for Spanish, to complete required paperwork.
