The Department of History, Politics and Geography strives to teach students to become critical thinkers while developing their knowledge of American, European, and non-Western history.

The faculty are particularly strong in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and the Former Soviet Union, the Middle East, East Asia, and Latin America. Their diverse knowledge is celebrated by offering specialty courses in the history of science and technology, religion, film, and gender.

Our political science courses focus on public policy, legal studies, political theory, and national, state, and local government. We also offer internationally-oriented courses in comparative politics, international relations, and geopolitics. Students have the opportunities to take specialized courses in the fields of mass media, the environment, religion, and popular culture.

Outside the Classroom

We encourage students to seek opportunities outside the classroom to enhance the learning experience. Students can join Phi Alpha Theta - the National History Honor Society that recognizes academic distinction for students interested in the field of history.
