Smart Scholars provides an opportunity for students to enhance their college and career readiness experiences, and places them on a trajectory for success.

At Smart Scholars, we believe in the innate potential within each of our students to achieve their educational goals. Our comprehensive academic support services strengthen the skills, knowledge, and motivation students need to succeed in higher education.

The cornerstone of the Smart Scholars ECHS program involves students earning free, college credits while enrolled in high school. Students earn these credits through a combination of dual enrollment classes embedded within their high school schedule and courses taken on-campus at Farmingdale State College (FSC) through our Saturday pre-college program. The Saturday program affords students the unique opportunity to complete over half of their SS ECHS college credits at the FSC campus.

Mission

The mission of the Smart Scholars program is to increase college access and attainment by providing college courses, college and career development workshops, and educational and college trips for students who are historically underrepresented in higher education.

Goals

  • Transform college access and attainment by supporting students to earn at least 6 college credits per academic year while in high school.
  • Implement comprehensive support services to guide students through all aspects of higher education.
  • Increase the number of students from historically underrepresented backgrounds in completing a post-secondary credential/degree.
