College/Career Planning Workshop

Students met on the Farmingdale Campus to discuss and explore different methods of choosing an undergraduate college that is right for them, and how to start on different career paths. A speaker from the Farmingdale admissions office came and discussed with the students what different major tracks Farmingdale has to offer, the general cost of an undergraduate degree, how payment works and how all this information can be applied to other schools. College access programs were also discussed by a member of our CSTEP program, and students learned how joining one of these programs can be incredibly beneficial to not only their college experience, but for getting started on their career after they graduate.

Hofstra University Field Trip

Students were given the chance to go to the Hofstra University campus in Hempstead to meet with the Hofstra CSTEP program and discuss the many opportunities they could have in attending Hofstra. They were also given a tour of the school and were able to visit some of the main buildings and walk through the heart of the campus. They also met with students from various degree tracks to be able to discuss their experiences at Hofstra University.

DNA Fingerprinting Lab-Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
May 16, 2023
Students visited Cold Spring Harbor's Laboratory to learn about DNA sequences. In this lab, students compared DNA from “evidence” and “suspects” using restriction enzyme digest and agarose gel electrophoresis. Students then analyzed the results to draw conclusions about each "suspect."
