Jack Schnirman

Jack Schnirman is a nonprofit healthcare executive, university educator, and former elected official with a longstanding commitment to public service, educational opportunity, and leadership development. The first in his family to attend a four-year college, Jack relied on financial aid, including New York State’s Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and a federal Pell Grant, to make his college education possible. That experience shaped his commitment to expanding educational opportunity, college affordability, and the vital role of New York’s public higher education system—principles he brings to his service on the Farmingdale State College Council.
Jack currently serves as Vice President for Administration at Northwell Health, advancing the financial and operational sustainability of mission-driven healthcare initiatives, including those related to New York’s Medicaid 1115 waiver. He also develops strategic partnerships with regional healthcare providers in collaboration with Northwell’s Institute for Community Health and Wellness.
Previously, Jack served as the elected Nassau County Comptroller, where he modernized financial operations, strengthened transparency and accountability, identified $137 million in waste, fraud, and abuse, and recovered $12.4 million in taxpayer dollars. He also launched the Open Nassau Transparency Hub, Scorecard, and Community Indicators Index to promote data-driven government. As Long Beach City Manager, he led the city’s recovery and resilient rebuilding following Superstorm Sandy, including reconstruction of its iconic boardwalk ahead of schedule and under budget. As Brookhaven’s Chief Deputy Town Supervisor, he helped introduce 451-TOWN, a 311-style constituent-service system, and ServiceStat, a data-driven performance-management program that improved government efficiency and accountability. Earlier, he worked in Washington, D.C., for U.S. Senators John Kerry and Frank Lautenberg and the National Environmental Trust, attending UN climate negotiations in Bonn, Germany.
An adjunct instructor at SUNY Old Westbury, Jack teaches the Strategic Healthcare Management capstone in its MS in Healthcare Management program and undergraduate courses in Leadership and State & Local Government. At Hofstra University, he taught State & Local Government and developed and taught Crisis Communications and Management for Leaders. Jack also serves on Hofstra’s Kalikow School of Public Policy advisory board.
A member of Harvard’s Adaptive Leadership Network and a partner in Long Island’s Energeia Partnership, Jack has served as a career guide for NYU Wagner’s Fellowship for Emerging Leaders in Public Service and co-chaired the New Leaders Council Fellowship’s curriculum committee. Early in his career, he co-founded a national campus-based leadership-development organization supported by Harvard’s Institute of Politics and Tufts University’s Tisch College.
Jack serves on the boards of the Emotional PPE Project and Gold Coast Forum, where he has moderated book festival discussions, including one featured on C-SPAN. He previously served on the Long Island League of Conservation Voters board and currently volunteers as a Plainview Little League baseball coach.
Recognized among Long Island Business News’ 40 Under 40 and the Long Island Press Power List, Jack holds a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and a BA in International Relations from Tufts University. He lives in West Hills with his wife, Joanie, and their children, Sage and Oz.
