Chancellor's Awards for Excellence

The Chancellor's Awards for Excellence are System-level honors conferred to acknowledge and provide system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence. Recipients of these awards embody extraordinary standards and serve as role models for the entire academic community.

The awards provide SUNY-wide recognition in the following categories:

Teaching
Adjunct Teaching

The SUNY Chancellor's Excellence Awards Policies and Procedures document outlines the policies and procedures for the 2026-2027 cycle. Please be sure to review the nomination requirements before submitting a nomination.

In addition to SUNY's required criteria, the local selection committees require the following:

• Professional Service: nominees must have worked a minimum of 5 years at FSC at the time of nomination.
• Faculty Service, Librarianship, Scholarship and Creative Activities, and Teaching: nominees must be tenured faculty members or non-tenure faculty (not preceded by Visiting) who have worked a minimum of 8 years at FSC at the time of nomination.
• Teaching & Adjunct Teaching: nominees must submit student evaluations in the form of student questionnaires or surveys.

Chancellor's Horizon Award

The Chancellor’s Horizon Award for Faculty Research and Scholarship honors early career faculty whose scholarly or creative activities have already achieved significant recognition and, crucially, hold strong promise for field-defining impact in the future.  

Eligibility:

• Early career faculty. Specifically, eligibility is limited to faculty in tenure-track or tenured positions, or the equivalent, who are up to seven years beyond the date of initial appointment to a tenure-track position. The seven-year tenured or tenure-track experience maximum includes tenured or tenure-track positions (or the equivalent) held at other SUNY institutions or at institutions outside of the SUNY system.
• The nominee must hold a full-time teaching appointment as defined by their campus. “Qualified” appointments, such as visiting or clinical faculty positions, as defined by the Board of Trustees policy, are not eligible for this award.
• Nominees must have been employed by a SUNY campus for at least one year and must currently be employed at one of the 64 campuses in the SUNY system.
• Campuses are encouraged to nominate candidates who reflect the diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and expertise within the SUNY system.

In compliance with SUNY guidelines, you may not self-nominate for any Chancellor's Awards programs.
