Earth Week Events - Friday

Do you enjoy being outdoors? Do you have a passion for the environment? Do you want to learn how to be a good steward of our planet? Then join FSC's Office for Sustainability in celebrating Earth Week! These campus activities will get you outdoors, appreciating the environment and learning how to become more sustainable. Sustainability is a top priority for FSC - and Earth Week is our time to shine green! Join us in our week-long celebration. All are welcome.

Earth Week Events for April 21

• 9am-12pm: Invasive species removal at West Brook
  Event hosted by Seatuck and promoted in partnership with AAA Northeast.
  

  Join us for a volunteer phrag pull at West Brook! The only dam on West Brook, a major tributary of the Connetquot River, failed in 2019 and allowed the artificial pond behind it to drain. For the first time in over 100 years, the brook could once again flow naturally from its headwaters in Bayard Cutting Arboretum State Park down to the tidal reaches of the Great South Bay. It is now one of only a few free-flowing streams on Long Island. It has great ecological potential as a place where migratory fish can return and other native riverine species can once again find a home. But the future of the stream is uncertain – New York State Parks is still deciding whether to repair the dam.
  
  Join us on Friday April 21, 2023, as we work to remove invasive species at West Brook and continue to improve stream habitat for diadromous fish.  Please register to attend. You can also email cfoster@seatuck.org or Maia Roseval at Maia Roseval for more information.

  Please park at the Westbrook Sports Complex on Wheeler Road to join the event, we will be walking over to West Brook to pull phragmites. Make sure to wear boots or shoes you don't mind getting muddy. It's good to also bring work/gardening gloves, water/light snack, sunscreen, and bug spray.
