Agencies and Organizations
FCA is a non-profit that operates in Nassau County which offers help to people who are experiencing social, emotional, and economic challenges. FCA provides an array of services, including:
- Substance Use and Addiction Counseling
- Mental Health Services
- Youth Services
- Senior and Adult Services
- Parent Support Services
- Immigrant Resources
- Community Outreach and Support
- Residential and Emergency Shelter

FSL is a social service agency located in Suffolk County whose mission is to provide support to Long Islanders who need it the most. To do this, FSL operates various programs, including:
- Addiction Services and Treatment
- Children's Services
- Training and Employment Programs
- Family and Community Support
- Housing and Homeless Services
- Mental Health and Integrated Care
- Senior and Caregiver Resources
- Trauma and Crisis Counseling
FSL also operates DASH, a 24/7 Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center for individuals who are in crisis due to substance use, mental illness, or life stressors. To get in contact call 631-650-0110.

CDLI is dedicated to increasing affordable housing opportunities on Long Island that meets each community's needs. They provide a list of rental opportunities, tenant resource programs, homeowner resources, and financial coaching programs.

LSLI provides legal assistance to Long Islanders for various issues, especially those who are low income and in need of assistance with shelter, food, healthcare, and family matters. LSLI devotes much of its time towards assisting homeless Long Islanders in legal matters, but they also have various projects dedicated to issues such as mental health, civil cases, disability advocacy, human rights, foreclosure prevention, veteran's services, and much more.

HWCLI Certified Navigators can assist Long Island residents find health insurance plans through the New York State Marketplace that best fit their medical and financial needs. Services are free, but costs associated with a health plan may apply.

HFY provides services for children, youth, and families; spanning a continuum of care from outpatient, clinical and preventive services, to foster care, diagnostic and emergency residential services. They work with children as young as birth to age 21 across the Long Island region.

Programs
SNAP helps those with limited income buy food. Please note that students enrolled in college at least half-time must meet additional eligibility criteria.
You can also apply in person at your local Social Service Center. If you would like additional assistance please contact the FSC Case Manager.

HEAP is a federally funded program that assists low-income New Yorkers with the cost of heating or cooling their homes.
If you are eligible, you may receive one regular HEAP benefit per program year and you may also be eligible for emergency HEAP benefits if you are in danger of running out of fuel or having your utility services shut off.
Please Note: The opening date for NYS HEAP applications is currently delayed. For further information or if you are in need of immediate heating or fueling assistance, please visit or contact you local DSS/HRA and request emergency assistance.
Temporary Assistance (TA), also known as Public Assistance, is temporary financial help for individuals in need. If you are unable to work, can't find a job, or your job does not pay enough, Temporary Assistance may be able to help you pay for your expenses.
Eligibility criteria vary, for further assistance please refer to your local DSS/HRA or speak with the FSC Case Manager to review your case.
Project Warmth is a safety-net program run by United Way for financially struggling Long Island individuals and families who are unable to pay their heating bill. The program is designed to provide a one-time grant for energy and/or energy-related electricity.
Note: As of November 2025, Project Warmth is closed for the season. Please check back for updates.
