FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Training with a PMI ATP helps ensure that participants are learning from curriculum aligned with PMI’s current exam standards and from approved instructors. PMI specifically positions ATP courses as official, instructor-led exam prep.
This program is best suited for professionals who already manage projects, lead teams, oversee timelines or budgets, coordinate stakeholders, or contribute to project delivery and now want formal PMP® exam preparation and a stronger command of modern project management methods. PMP certification is widely recognized across sectors including technology, healthcare, construction, engineering, finance, and government.
Yes. Farmingdale’s program requires participants to have roughly 3–5 years of project management experience before enrolling. PMI’s current certification rules are more specific: eligibility depends on your education level and project leadership experience, with common pathways including 36 months of experience plus 35 hours of training for candidates with a bachelor’s degree, or 60 months plus 35 hours of training for candidates with a secondary diploma.
It is designed as PMP exam prep and FSC’s published cohort totals 35 hours of instruction. PMI requires 35 hours of project management education/training for most PMP applicants unless they hold an active CAPM®.
No. PMP preparation is intentionally cross-industry. The skills covered apply to professionals working in business, IT, engineering, healthcare, construction, operations, public service, and many other sectors where projects must be planned, managed, and delivered effectively.
The next published cohort is offered 100% synchronous online, which means participants attend live online sessions in real time rather than completing the course fully on their own schedule.
Yes. FSC advertises a 10% discount for Farmingdale State College students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Current Farmingdale employees are also listed as eligible for a payroll deduction plan.
Yes. Our program not only provides the necessary training to sit for the exam, the materials for the class, but also a voucher for the PMP exam.
No legitimate provider should guarantee certification. This program is designed to prepare participants thoroughly for the exam, but earning the PMP® credential still depends on meeting PMI eligibility requirements, submitting a successful application, and passing the exam.
You may still benefit from the training if you are building toward eligibility, but the PMP® itself is intended for experienced practitioners. For someone earlier in their career, it may make sense to first build project leadership experience or consider a more introductory certification pathway through PMI before pursuing the PMP®.
