International Education Week

November 15-19, 2021

Each November Farmingdale State College joins institutions nationwide in celebrating International Education Week. International Education Week is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.

This joint initiative is part of an effort to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.

Click here for the Calendar of Events. Descriptions found below. More events are coming soon!

Events are free and open to everyone.

Also feel free to check out ROC International Education Week.

For the past five years, SUNY Brockport, SUNY Geneseo and five other Rochester-area colleges have co-hosted ROC Your Global Future. The annual conference and workshops allow students the opportunity to network, connect, reflect, network and explore international opportunities upon their return from their study abroad experience.

For the signature event during IEW, we are excited to announce that we will be hosting Rick Steves, an internationally recognized American travel writer, author, activist and television personality, as our keynote speaker. This special event titled, “Travel as a Political Act: A Conversation with Rick Steves”, will take place virtually on Tuesday, November 16th from 5-6pm via Zoom. After the presentation, there will be time for a Q&A. Registration is encouraged for each event.

Hosted by: The Multicultural Committee, Sponsored by the Auxiliary Service Corporation (ASC)

Description: Against the backdrop of the Civil Rights Movement of the mid-1960s, a young San Francisco Chinatown resident armed with a 16mm camera and leftover film scraps from a local TV station, turned his lens onto his community. Totaling more than 20,000 feet of film (10 hours), Harry Chuck's exquisite unreleased footage has captured a divided community's struggles for self-determination. Chinatown Rising is a documentary film about the Asian-American Movement from the perspective of the young residents on the front lines of their historic neighborhood in transition. Through publicly challenging the conservative views of their elders, their demonstrations and protests of the 1960s-1980s rattled the once quiet streets during the community’s shift in power. Forty-five years later, in intimate interviews these activists recall their roles and experiences in response to the need for social change.
