Academic Standards for Federal Financial Aid Funding

In order to receive federal funds a student must meet the satisfactory academic standards set forth by the College as mandated by the federal government. Satisfactory Academic Progress is defined qualitatively by Grade Point Average and quantitatively by Pace of Progression to ensure completion within a maximum time frame.

Please be aware that only courses that apply toward the student's current program can be considered in determining the number of eligible credits for financial aid.

All credits attempted, whether or not the student ever received financial aid, must be evaluated in order to determine if a student is eligible for financial aid in subsequent terms. Program standards for financial aid will be evaluated at the end of each semester, including summer. Non-credit course work will be evaluated according to the University standards. A student who fails to meet the progress standards, but who is permitted to remain in school as a matriculated student, will be allowed to receive one semester of financial aid and will be assigned a status of “Financial Aid Academic Warning.” If the student fails to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress after that term they are no longer eligible to receive federal financial aid.

Appeal of Ineligibility for Federal Funds due to Failure to Meet Academic Standards

A student who fails to meet the financial aid progress standards, is a matriculated student and has exhausted their semester of “Financial Aid Academic Warning” may appeal to the Director of Financial Aid or Designee. The student must submit the Appeal form and documentation to verify circumstances which interfered with the student’s ability to meet academic progress standards and identify what has changed that will allow them to meet the standards at the next evaluation. The following circumstances may be considered in determining whether the student is eligible to be considered for a waiver:

  • Serious illness to student or immediate family member.
  • Death of immediate family member.
  • Serious and/or unusual personal circumstances.

If the Appeal is approved, the student will be assigned a one-time status of “Financial Aid Probation” and is expected to meet the standards at the next evaluation and be placed on an academic plan with the Dean of Students that will ensure they will be able to meet the standards by a specific point in time. Failure to meet the standards will result in the loss of eligibility for all federal financial aid. No consecutive Appeals will be granted.

Students should be aware that aid cannot be processed once you have completed 150% of your program, as defined below:
