Long Island Wine & Food Classic | Saturday, September 19, 2026 | Farmingdale State College

McKenna Strategic Event Solutions Group is seeking dependable Farmingdale State College students to assist with the production of the Long Island Wine & Food Classic. These paid, project-based opportunities will provide students with hands-on experience in event production, guest services, hospitality, restaurant operations, and culinary support.


Position 1: Event Setup and Breakdown Crew

Number of Positions Available: 4
Work Dates: Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19, 2026
Guaranteed Hours: Five hours each day; 10 total hours per student
Compensation: $17 per hour
Guaranteed Gross Compensation: $160 per student

Position Summary:

The Event Setup and Breakdown Crew will assist MSESG with preparing Farmingdale State College for the Long Island Wine & Food Classic. This is a physically active position involving the placement, organization, movement, and breakdown of event equipment, furniture, signage, décor, and supplies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with event setup on Friday and Saturday.
  • Unload and distribute event supplies to designated areas.
  • Move and position tables, chairs, signage, décor, equipment, and other event materials.
  • Help prepare restaurant, beverage, sponsor, check-in, VIP, and guest areas.
  • Organize event materials and supplies according to the event floor plan.
  • Assist & help unload participating restaurants, sponsors, and vendors with locating + setting up their assigned areas. 
  • Assist with last-minute event preparation before guests arrive.
  • Assist with event breakdown, packing, loading, and cleanup. 
  • Follow all instructions provided by MSESG supervisors and Farmingdale State College representatives.
  • Follow all applicable venue and event-safety procedures. 
  • Perform other reasonable event-setup or breakdown duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be comfortable standing, walking, bending, lifting, and performing physical work for extended periods.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, cooperative, and able to follow instructions.
  • Must be comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Must wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and appropriate work clothing.
  • Prior event, catering, warehouse, moving, or setup experience is helpful but not required. 

Additional hours may be available depending on event-production needs. Any additional hours must be approved by an authorized MSESG supervisor.


 Position 2: Event Check-In Team

Number of Positions Available: 6
Work Date: Saturday, September 19, 2026
Shift: 4:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.
Guaranteed Hours: Six hours
Compensation: $17 per hour
Guaranteed Gross Compensation: $96 per student

Position Summary:

The Event Check-In Team will welcome guests and manage digital admission to the Long Island Wine & Food Classic using the Eventbrite platform. Selected students will receive Eventbrite training before guest check-in begins. Check-in will be conducted using approved smartphones and iPads.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Attend the required Eventbrite online training and check-in preparation session.
  • Become familiar with the event’s admission procedures and ticket categories.
  • Welcome guests in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Scan and validate digital and printed tickets using smartphones and iPads.
  • Search for guest registrations within the Eventbrite system when necessary.
  • Assist guests with basic ticketing and admission questions.
  • Direct guests to the appropriate check-in or admission line.
  • Distribute wristbands, credentials, programs, or other admission materials as instructed.
  • Help maintain organized lines and an efficient guest-entry process.
  • Provide guests with basic event information and directions.
  • Refer ticketing problems, registration discrepancies, or guest concerns to an MSESG supervisor.
  • Protect guest information and use Eventbrite access only for authorized event purposes.
  • Maintain a professional and welcoming presence throughout the shift.
  • Perform other reasonable guest-services duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Must be friendly, professional, dependable, and comfortable interacting with the public.
  • Must be familiar with smartphones and tablet devices.
  • Must be able to learn the Eventbrite check-in platform quickly.
  • Must possess strong communication, organization, and customer-service skills.
  • Must be able to remain calm and courteous during high-volume guest-arrival periods.
  • Must be punctual and available for the entire 4:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m. shift.
  • Must be comfortable standing for extended periods.
  • Prior customer-service, retail, hospitality, ticketing, or event experience is helpful but not required. 

Position 3: Restaurant and Culinary Assistance Team

Number of Positions Available: 5
Work Date: Saturday, September 19, 2026
Guaranteed Hours: Five hours
Specific Shift: To be confirmed
Compensation: $17 per hour
Guaranteed Gross Compensation: $80 per student

Position Summary:

The Restaurant and Culinary Assistance Team will support participating chefs, restaurants, and culinary representatives during the Long Island Wine & Food Classic. Assignments may include helping with plating, serving, replenishment, station organization, and other basic restaurant-support needs. Specific assignments will depend on the needs of the participating chefs and restaurants.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist participating chefs and restaurant representatives as assigned.
  • Help organize restaurant stations, plates, utensils, ingredients, and supplies.
  • Assist with basic food plating and sample presentation.
  • Help serve tasting portions to event guests.
  • Replenish plates, napkins, utensils, food-service materials, and other supplies.
  • Help maintain clean, organized, and attractive restaurant stations.
  • Assist chefs with basic nontechnical preparation or service tasks when requested.
  • Transport approved supplies between designated event areas.
  • Monitor restaurant stations and report supply or service needs.
  • Follow all food-safety, sanitation, and allergen-handling instructions.
  • Refer all ingredient and allergen questions to the participating chef or restaurant representative.
  • Provide courteous and professional assistance to chefs, vendors, and guests.
  • Perform other reasonable culinary or hospitality-support duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • An interest in culinary arts, hospitality, restaurant operations, or event production is preferred.
  • Must be professional, dependable, organized, and willing to assist wherever needed.
  • Must be comfortable standing and working in a fast-paced event environment.
  • Must be able to follow instructions from chefs, restaurant representatives, and MSESG supervisors.
  • Must maintain a strong commitment to cleanliness, organization, and professional presentation.
  • Must tie back long hair when working around food.
  • Must wear clean, closed-toe, preferably slip-resistant shoes.
  • Prior restaurant, catering, culinary, hospitality, or food-service experience is helpful but not required.
  • Food-handling assignments will be limited to duties appropriate for each student’s training and experience. 

Additional hours may be available depending on the needs of participating restaurants and the event. Any additional hours must be approved by an authorized MSESG supervisor.


General Engagement Requirements

All selected students must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Complete and submit a valid IRS Form W-9 before beginning work.
  • Provide accurate contact and payment information on MSESG intake form.
  • Arrive on time and remain for the entire assigned shift.
  • Follow MSESG, Farmingdale State College, venue, safety, and food-service rules.
  • Follow the instructions of designated MSESG supervisors.
  • Conduct themselves professionally around guests, sponsors, chefs, restaurants, vendors, college personnel, and fellow team members.
  • Wear appropriate attire and footwear for their assigned position.
  • Refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages while working, regardless of age.
  • Refrain from using alcohol, marijuana, or any impairing substance before or during an assigned shift.
  • Keep all guest, vendor, event, and business information confidential.
  • Notify the designated MSESG supervisor immediately if an emergency prevents them from fulfilling an accepted assignment.
  • Accurately record and submit their hours according to MSESG’s time-reporting procedures.

Independent-Contractor Status

Selected students will be engaged and paid by MSESG as independent contractors. Each student must complete a Form W-9 and any required contractor documentation before beginning an assignment. Independent contractors are responsible for reporting their compensation and satisfying any applicable federal, state, and local tax obligations. No federal, state, or local taxes will be withheld unless required by law. Participation in these assignments does not guarantee future work or continued engagement with MSESG.


Required Attire

Unless otherwise instructed, students should arrive wearing:

  • Clean black pants or other approved professional work pants
  • A clean black shirt or other shirt provided or approved by MSESG (weather dependent)
  • Comfortable, closed-toe shoes
  • Neat, clean, and professional grooming
  • MSESG may provide additional event credentials, shirts, badges, or identification that must be worn during the assignment
