Karen Boorshtein's leadership was the heart of Family Service League's mission. After beginning her career as a LCSW, she rose through the ranks to become President and CEO, guiding the organization for over three decades with empathy, integrity, and a deep understanding of human need.

Under her leadership, Family Service League grew into one of Long Island's largest and most trusted health and human service organizations. The agency serves more than 60,000 individuals each year through over 60 programs that address mental health, addiction, housing, trauma recovery, and family support.

Karen has dedicated her career to improving access to quality behavioral health care and building systems that meet people where they are. She had been a visionary in implementing integrated health care, starting with our largest regional office in Bay Shore, and later expanding all over Long Island. Her dedication to building community partnerships that bridge gaps between healthcare, social services, and emergency response has been critical. Her work ensured that no one on Long Island faces crisis alone.

Karen retired on 4/10/26 after 33 years with Family Service League. Karen's legacy continues to inspire the next generation. She embodies what it means to be a leader: someone whose compassion, vision, and lifelong commitment have transformed lives and strengthened communities across Long Island.
