Welcome to Farmingdale State College’s Policy Library. This library is the official repository for all institutional policies and procedures and is intended to be a resource for faculty, staff and students seeking information related to the policies that govern the institution. This library does not contain department-specific policies and procedures. Please contact the department for specific departmental policies and procedures.

Additional Sick Leave Request Guidelines
(a.k.a. Presidential Sick Leave)

Policy Statement
Title C, Section 5 of the Policies of the Board of Trustees states, “The chief administrative officer may grant an employee sick leave in addition to that provided by sections 1 and 2 of this Title. Such additional sick leave may be at full salary, or such part thereof as the chief administrative officer may determine, or without salary. Additional sick leave at full or partial salary, together with use of any sick leave provided by sections 1 and 2 of this Title, shall not exceed a total of six calendar months.”
Procedures
Authorization for such additional sick leave should be obtained by forwarding a written request, using the Additional Leave Request Form, through appropriate administrative channels (Supervisor/Dean/Director to Area Vice President to Human Resources). Prior to being granted additional sick leave, an employee will be required to furnish Human Resources with acceptable medical documentation. Generally this is faxed directly from the physician to Human Resources' FAX (631) 420-2489. The granting of additional sick leave is discretionary, and will typically not be at full pay. The following factors will be considered by the President in arriving at a determination:
- The Dean/Director's support of the request
- The Area Vice President’s support of the request
- Employee's length of service
- Amount of leave requested
- Employee history with respect to previous sick leave use
