Farmingdale State College Launches Office of Professional and Continuing Education

Farmingdale State College has introduced its new Office of Professional and Continuing Education (OPCE), bringing together and elevating work the College has been doing for years in workforce training, industry partnerships, and continuing education.
While the name is new, the foundation is not. Farmingdale has long offered hands-on programs, professional training, and employer-aligned learning opportunities that support both individual career growth and regional workforce needs. OPCE represents the next step; organizing these efforts under a single, cohesive structure and expanding their reach.
The goal is simple: make it easier for students, professionals, and employers to access high-quality, career-focused learning that leads to real outcomes.
Building on What Works
Farmingdale’s approach to education has always been rooted in application. That same
philosophy carries into OPCE, where programs are designed to translate directly into
workplace skills.
Current offerings include training in healthcare, design, business, fitness, and process improvement, with programs such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Pharmacy Technician, Lean Six Sigma, Adobe Design Essentials, Certified Personal Training, and Creative Problem Solving. Each is built with a focus on practical experience, clear skill development, and immediate relevance to today’s job market.
A Stronger Connection to Industry
Partnerships with local employers have been a key part of Farmingdale’s work for years.
Through customized training and professional development, the College has supported
organizations in building stronger, more capable teams.
With OPCE, those partnerships will continue to grow. The new structure allows for more coordinated outreach, expanded programming, and the ability to respond more quickly to emerging workforce needs.
Three Areas of Focus
OPCE is organized around three core areas:
- Certificates & Personal Advancement – Short-term, skill-based programs designed to help individuals move forward in their careers
- Corporate Training & Professional Development – Customized solutions for employers looking to upskill their workforce
- Farmingdale Institute for Lifelong Learning (FILL) – Programs that support personal enrichment and continued engagement in learning
Together, these areas reflect the full range of what continuing education can offer—from career entry to ongoing personal growth.
Looking Ahead
The launch of OPCE is less about starting something new and more about moving forward
with intention. By bringing existing efforts together and building on a strong track
record, Farmingdale is creating a clearer, more accessible path for anyone looking
to learn, grow, or make a change.
As the office expands, the focus will remain on practical programs, strong partnerships, and opportunities that make a real difference- for individuals, for employers, and for the broader community.
