FSC Receives Prestigious National Accreditation for University in the High School Program

The National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) has announced that Farmingdale State College (FSC) is among only 12 dual and concurrent enrollment programs nationwide to receive its highly esteemed reaccreditation during the 2025-2026 cycle. Additionally, 10 dual and concurrent enrollment programs were this year granted initial accreditation. In total, there are 136 NACEP-accredited programs across 132 institutions and 27 states.

FSC was honored for its University in the High School (UHS) program, which helps bridge the gap between high school and college-level study by allowing local students to earn college credit, at reduced tuition, for College-approved concurrent enrollment courses they take at their district high school. Participating students benefit from overall development and support to successfully reach their academic goals.

“Accreditation reflects an institution’s commitment to excellence and accountability in serving students and communities,” says Andrea Roma, NACEP’s director of accreditation. “We are proud to recognize the 136 programs that chose to invest in this rigorous process and demonstrate their dedication to high standards in concurrent enrollment programs.”

NACEP is the leading membership organization supporting programs that successfully transition students from high school to college through college credit-bearing courses. The organization’s standards serve as a benchmark for achieving alignment in faculty qualifications, course content, student outcomes, and institutional support. Earning NACEP accreditation signifies that an institution has met the highest level of excellence in the design, oversight, and evaluation of its concurrent enrollment program across several key areas.

To earn NACEP accreditation, recipient programs conduct a robust self-study and undergo a thorough peer-review process conducted by a team of representatives from NACEP-accredited programs, as well as the members of the NACEP Accreditation Commission.

“This is a significant accomplishment for FSC and a strong affirmation of the quality, rigor, and integrity of our University in the High School program," said Dylan Gafarian, EdD, FSC’s acting dean of extended and experiential learning. “As the only four-year State University of New York institution to hold this distinction, Farmingdale continues to stand as a leader in dual enrollment across the system.

“This reaccreditation is more than a compliance milestone,” Gafarian added. “It validates the strength of our academic partnerships, faculty oversight, course alignment, and commitment to providing high school students with meaningful access to college-level learning. This is a proud moment for Farmingdale State College, and an important launching point for what comes next in enrollment growth, regional impact, and long-term student pipeline development.”

NACEP’s accreditation is valid for five years for initial accreditation and seven years for programs that are reaccredited between accreditation reviews. Member programs commit to upholding NACEP’s standards and report annually on program practices across multiple national standards.

“On behalf of the Accreditation Commission, I congratulate all newly accredited and re-accredited programs for successfully demonstrating their commitment to maintaining NACEP’s high standards of quality programming,” said Mike Altomari, chair of NACEP’s Accreditation Commission.
