Destini Buchanan, ‘24, Receives Student Achievement Award at Annual Black History Month Celebration 

 

On February 29, 2024, Farmingdale State College (FSC) student Destini Buchanan, ‘24, a bioscience major and business management minor, received a Student Achievement Award at New York State Senator Monica Martinez’s Annual Black History Month Celebration.  

Buchanan was recognized for her sound campus leadership, student advocacy, and commitment to inclusion. She currently serves as FSC Student Government Association president, FSC unit secretary for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and vice president of FSC’s Afro-Caribbean Club. 

“As a student leader, Ms. Buchanan has succeeded in working with the College to improve the student experience and increase scholarship support for students with financial need,” said John S. Nader, PhD, president of FSC. “She was also recognized as a nominee for the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence--SUNY’s highest student honor. Ms. Buchanan embodies the best attributes of Farmingdale State College.”
