TRIO and CSTEP proudly hosted a highly impactful residential Summer Bridge program for 40 first-year college students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. All program participants had the opportunity to live in residence hall dorms and completed Farmingdale’s newly minted First-Year Experience course to earn college credit.

Students engaged in mock college classes such as Precalculus and Biology, formed mentoring relationships, and attended professional as well as personal development workshops. For example, an immersive series of writing seminars were facilitated to help prepare students for college. A couple of educational field trips to New York City museums and the Queens Zoo were also organized to help promote a unique sense of belongingness. As one student mentioned, “I really liked the fact that I was able to meet so many people and make new friends because I thought I wouldn’t be able to make any.”

TRIO and CSTEP is grateful for the incredible support that was given by Farmingdale State College!
