Monday, April 25, 2022 the Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusive Excellence and the Nursing Department sponsored the Implicit Bias Workshop: Implications for Higher Education with an attendance of over 70 enthusiastic participants. Dr. Kenya Beard EdD, Associate Provost at Chamberlain University and Chairperson of the New York State Board of Nursing held an engaging, comprehensive, and interactive workshop that captivated the attention of all participants. Dr. Beard defined various forms of implicit bias which included a question and answer type forum, to develop overall increased knowledge and awareness to promote and sustain an inclusive higher education community. Notably, her impassioned connection with all students, staff, and faculty established a shared enthusiasm, thought provoking reflection, and a unanimous eagerness to gain needed knowledge on implicit bias. Towards the close of the workshop, there were an outstanding number of requests for future workshops to further explore and enhance understanding.
