Earth Week

Do you enjoy being outdoors? Do you have a passion for the environment? Do you want to learn how to be a good steward of our planet? Then join FSC's Office for Sustainability in celebrating Earth Week! These campus activities will get you outdoors, appreciating the environment and learning how to become more sustainable. Sustainability is a top priority for FSC - and Earth Week is our time to shine green! Join us in our week-long celebration. All are welcome.

CLOTHING DONATIONS: Clothing, shoes, and accessories will be collected in Hale Hall, Campus Center, Greenley Library, and Gleeson Hall until April 20th. These items will be used for the Green Giveaway on April 21st!

ALL WEEK

  • “Caught Green Handed” Social Media Competition
    Sponsored by the Office for Sustainability
    Snap some pictures of you being "green" and post on your social media accounts and tag the Office for Sustainability's instagram to be entered into a raffle for FREE sustainability swag packs!
    • What does being "green" entail? Any environmentally friendly activity! Examples include: using any of the campus hydration stations with your reusable water bottle, composting, recycling, riding your bike, using public transportation, using reusable bags at the store, gardening, planting, using a reusable straw, or driving an electric vehicle! You can get creative, too!
  • FSC Office for Sustainability's Instagram: @fsc_sustainability
  • Swag pack can only be won by a student, not faculty or staff.

Monday, April 20th

  • 9am-11am: Earth Week Kick-Off Event
    Campus Center Vestibule
    Sponsored by the Office for Sustainability
    Stop by the CC vestibule with your reusable coffee mug/tumbler and enjoy FREE coffee or tea! We will be sharing all of the exciting events for the upcoming week. Earth themed donuts will be available for all to enjoy.
  • 1pm-3pm: Giving Garden Workshop with Cornell Cooperative Extension
    FSC Giving Garden
    Sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension
    FSC's Giving Garden needs your help! At our Giving Garden volunteer event, we will be prepping our beds for seed plantings. This includes pulling weeds, prepping the soil, planting new seeds, and pruning the surrounding areas. Come learn how to grow your own food, meet likeminded people, and enjoy some fresh air.
  • 5pm-6:30pm: Mocktail Paint & Sip Event: Reusable Totes
    Quintyne Hall, Room 100
    Sponsored by the Office for Sustainability
    Come celebrate Earth Week and paint some reusable totes! Green and blue mocktails will be available to enjoy while you paint your tote.

Tuesday, April 21st

  • 10am-1pm: Earth Day Festival
    Campus Center/Quintyne Walkway
    Sponsored by the Office for Sustainability
    Stop by the CC lawn and celebrate the earth, hang with Rambo, and have some fun! Event includes:
    • Lawn Games
    • Sustainable T-shirt Tie-die Station (featuring only green and blue colors)
    • Green Giveaway
    • Music
    • New! Bike share program "Ram Rides" test ride
    • Wildflower giveaways
    • And more!
  • 4pm-5pm: Planet & Pilates
    Campus Center Amphitheater
    Come enjoy some fresh air and get your pilates on! A mat-based pilates class will be offered under the Amphitheater for all to enjoy.

Wednesday, April 22nd

  • 11am-12pm: "Ram-Rides" Launch Event
    FSC Turf
    Program sponsored by SUNY
    Join us for the official launch of our new Bike Share program, Ram Rides! Come learn how you can borrow a bike, take it for a spin, and enjoy the outdoors.
  • 12:30am-1:30am: "Weight the Waste" Table
    POPs (in the Campus Center)
    Sponsored by the Office for Sustainability and Aramark
    Come learn about composting! The Office for Sustainability will be hosting a table with compost bins in POPs for users to dispose their food waste into. At the end of the event, we will "weight the waste" and record how much organic waste we can keep out of the landfill through composting.

Thursday, April 23rd

  • 9am-11am: Native Tree Sapling Giveaway
    Campus Center Lobby
    Sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation
  • 1pm-2pm: Native Tree Planting Event
    Behind Nold Athletc Complex
    Sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation and Office for Sustainability
    Join FSC's Horticulture Club and Office for Sustainability for a tree planting event in honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day! Numerous trees will be planted across campus. All supplies will be provided.

Friday, April 24th

  • 9am-3pm: EV Symposium and Ride & Drive Event
    Campus Center Ballroom
    Hosted by the Office for Sustainability and Renewable Energy and Sustainability Center
    This year's EV Symposium and Ride & Drive will bring together local organizations, municipalities, EV dealers, manufacturers and local residents to educate attendees on current incentives, charging strategies, as well as EV basics for novices. Once again, this annual symposium will be held at Farmingdale State College and attendees will also have the opportunity to test drive the latest EV models right on campus! Register here.
