Spring Candidate Checklist - 2020

  • Check the spelling of your name for the commencement program after you have filed your Intent to Graduate form. You can check the spelling of your name by going to OASIS a few days after filing the form.
  • Questions about graduation after reading through the commencement website? Send email to commencement@farmingdale.edu
  • Visit the Barnes & Noble Bookstore to purchase a cap and gown between 04/01/20 - 05/08/20. Try on your attire to ensure it fits and make sure your bag includes the robe, hood, cap, and tassel. If you are unable to make it into the bookstore, please call them at 631-249-3048. Students must wear caps and gowns to participate in the graduation ceremony. Barnes & Noble will use its Facebook page at to announce the arrival of the caps and gowns.
  • Get your Commencement Tickets. Commencement tickets will be distributed during the Grad Fair in the Campus Ballroom Tuesday April 21st 10:30 am – 2:30 pm and Monday April 27th 3:30 pm – 6:30 pm. Each candidate will need proper identification (school ID or drivers license) to pick up tickets. Additional hours and locations TBD. Eligible graduates will be entitled to four (4) guest tickets. Due to the size of the graduating class, no extra tickets will be available for the  Commencement ceremony; NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Dress accordingly. You will be walking up the platform stairs to shake the President's hand and receive your diploma cover at the Commencement ceremony. High heels are not recommended. To maintain the dignity of the ceremony, we ask all students to dress appropriately.
  • It is very important that when you purchase your cap and gown, you open the package and check to see that you have everything that you are supposed to have: cap, gown, black tassel (Latin Honors students will receive a gold tassel during check-in at graduation), hood (Bachelor degree) or bib (Associate degree). Also, you should try on the cap and gown to make sure it fits. This will help avoid problems on the day of commencement.
  • Read the President's Message to Graduates.
  • Remind those who cannot attend that the event will be live-streamed on the College homepage. The link will be accessible the evening of Commencement.
  • No formal pictures will be taken. Portrait times will be available during the Grad Fair.
  • All graduation candidates MUST attend the pre-ceremony lineup and instructions.
