Spring 2021 Commencement
A Message From President Nader
Due to COVID, we are unable to hold traditional graduation events. This year we will celebrate your achievements with two Car-Mencement ceremonies. Last year’s event was a huge success. Unlike any other option, Car-mencement will allow on-campus participation by family members or friends. We look forward to your return to campus on May 22. This is a highly participatory event, and we have taken several steps to make it even more enjoyable. Here are a few things you should know:
- You are very welcome to include family members or friends in your vehicle. The campus will be decorated in your honor, so feel free to decorate your car—and yourself. (One car, per graduate please.)
- By student request, the ceremony will be livestreamed. Those students, family, and friends who are unable to attend will be able to watch.
- Student names will be read as they pass the stage. In addition to broadcasting with our public address sound system, we intend to simulcast the ceremony on an FM radio station so that you and your guests can tune in while you participate in the car parade.
- Students who attend Car-Mencement will receive a program, mortar board(cap) and tassel, champagne flute, and more.
- Due to the expected level of participation, two ceremonies are planned. One at 10am and the second at 2pm. Two academic schools will be celebrated at each ceremony (Business, Engineering Technology, Arts and Sciences and Health Sciences). Information concerning which schools will participate at each ceremony will follow soon.
- In the near future, students will receive a link to RSVP and confirm attendance to their school’s ceremony.
- Regalia will be available to order at the student’s expense through the College Bookstore.
- We anticipate that students will have the opportunity to submit appropriate photos for posting to the campus website.
- A link to Island Photography will be provided for those who wish to have professional senior photos taken.
- We plan to scroll the name of every graduating senior on the College’s large Route 110 message board.
- I plan to host a champagne toast for seniors and their families Friday night, May 21 at 7pm.
