Farmingdale State College knows its students-first approach to learning and dedication to hands-on applied learning experience bring extraordinary results. FSC shines when it comes to educating a diverse student body, enrolling first-generation college students, increasing socioeconomic mobility, and serving as an engine of opportunity for Long Island and beyond.

These are the statistics that really count for families-- FSC retains 83 percent of freshmen; the number of graduates employed in their fields or continuing in graduate school –94 percent—six months after graduation; FSC graduates rank among the top 2 percent in early career earnings (CollegeNet), and 55 percent of students graduate with no debt.

“Today’s students – and their families – are becoming more savvy shoppers,” wrote FSC President Dr. John S. Nader in an op ed this past May. “They are increasingly focused on real outcomes, not rankings. In short, students are, or should be, focused on the metrics that matter.”

FSC placed high in several categories critical to its mission in the 2022-2023 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings, reflecting its Metrics that Matter. The annual report rates colleges and universities across the country based on factors including SAT scores, retention, cost, debt, diversity, graduation rates, and graduation success.

Overall, FSC ranked 24 out of the 45 best regional colleges in the North. It tied for fifth place out of 10 in the best undergraduate teaching college category reflecting the priority the College gives to student instruction. The College also prides itself on providing a quality education at an affordable price, and it placed ninth out of 17 in the best value category for the north region.

Coinciding with news that the College received a 2022 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, U.S. News ranked it sixth out of seven for ethnic diversity among regional colleges. The enrollment is now 26 percent Hispanic, 10 percent African-American, and 11 percent Asian-American. The percentage of underrepresented minorities completing their degrees within six years exceeds the SUNY average.

Another source of pride for FSC is its large number of veterans and the services it provides for them. U.S. News ranked it 8th out of 12 among best colleges for veterans. FSC has the highest percentage of veterans in the SUNY system.

FSC’s accomplishments speak for themselves, and while the College understands that rankings serve a purpose, in the end, it is Farmingdale’s metrics that really matter.
