Babylon Resident Wins Excellence in Faculty Service Award from SUNY

Louis Scala, Associate Professor, Aviation Department, Farmingdale State College

Professor Scala has been teaching at Farmingdale since 1982. Said the Selection Committee: "Although he has excelled in all the three areas of teaching, scholarship and service, he has particularly established excellence in the area of service. Professor Scala has continually volunteered to do whatever tasks were necessary to promote Farmingdale and to be of service to the College in any capacity needed."

In line with his service mentality, he is a member of the Artists and Lecturers Program and advisor to the student Christian Fellowship. He is also advisor to the FSC chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). In his own words, Professor Scala said: "My philosophy is that a true servant is a person who exhibits the characteristics of a parent, coach, and professional/spiritual mentor."

The Chancellor's Award is conferred to acknowledge and provide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence. Through these awards, SUNY publicly proclaims its pride in the accomplishment and personal dedication of its instructional faculty, librarians and professional staff across its campuses.
