Susan A. Candia, John F. DeCarlo, and Jack R. Thomas are this year’s winners of the State University of New York’s coveted Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching.
Candia is an associate professor in the English and Humanities department; Thomas is an associate professor of biology, and DeCarlo is an associate professor of professional communications.
The three awards won by Farmingdale’s adjunct faculty were the most of any Long Island college in the SUNY system. Only four other colleges in the 64 campus system had three award winners.
“Farmingdale is most fortunate to attract highly qualified adjunct professors who bring not only their dedication to student success but many of them also possess valuable experience in the business, industry and service sector. They go above and beyond to ensure that students succeed in their coursework,” said President W. Hubert Keen. “This recognition by SUNY Chancellor Zimpher is most welcome.”

The Chancellor's Awards are presented annually in seven categories: Faculty Service, Librarianship, Professional Service, Scholarship and Creative Activities, Teaching, Classified Service, and Adjunct Teaching. The Chancellor's Awards for Excellence are conferred to acknowledge and provide system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence. Individuals selected for this honor are role models within the SUNY community.
