Lauren Bellissimo has been named the 2014 Valedictorian at Farmingdale State College. The Miller Place resident will receive her BS degree in Applied Psychology at the college's commencement ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 17, at noon. As Valedictorian, she will present remarks to the senior class.
"Lauren's outstanding academic record, along with her service to the community and the college helped her achieve this highest honor," said Dr. Hubert Keen, president of Farmingdale State College. "Her family and friends must be very proud of Lauren's accomplishments, and we at Farmingdale share that pride. Her motivation to excel at all she does will benefit not only her chosen profession, but also the world."
Ms. Bellissimo has had an exemplary college career. She is a student member of the American Psychological Association, and served as treasurer of both the campus psychology club and the Farmingdale chapter of the Psi Chi International Honor Society. She is also a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society. Her many campus activities included working on various charity fundraisers, and she remains active in helping raise funds for Long Island veterans.
Says Ms. Bellissimo of her years at Farmingdale: "The classes I have taken have equipped me with the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the workforce with confidence, facilitating an avenue for me to reach my goal of obtaining a career in the field of human resources.
"My experiences are irreplaceable and have proven crucial to shaping the person I am today. They have provided me with the tools for career success and a heightened sense of social responsibility."
