Farmingdale State College is teaming with Children’s Sport Connection of Garden City to raise funds and collect sporting equipment for underprivileged Long Island kids who do not have the equipment to play sports.
On April 19, the public is invited to the campus to help support the campaign by making donations and contributing new or gently used sporting equipment. The event will take place in the Campus Center lobby from noon to 4 p.m. From April 14-18, the campus will collect equipment from students, staff and faculty, who may also buy raffle tickets for a chance to win an autographed puck and photo of New York Islanders hockey players Josh Bailey and Matt Martin.
The five-day campaign is sponsored by Farmingdale’s Sport Management Club and Sigma Beta Delta, the international business honor society.
“We welcome families, friends and Long Island organizations to help support Children’s Sport Connection,” said PJ Waszkiewicz, President of the Sport Management Club at Farmingdale State College. “Playing sports can lead to valuable life lessons such as hard work, dedication, setting goals, and creating a safe and positive environment to boost a child's self-esteem through sport.”
Club advisors Ira Stolzenberg, professor of sport management, and Sab Singh, assistant professor in the sport management department, said “Our students read about this project and immediately contacted the Children’s Sport Connection to offer their assistance. Their organizational skills and enthusiasm are commendable.”
