Dr. John S. Nader and the Farmingdale State College Presidential Diversity, Equity,
and Inclusion selection committee is pleased to announce Dr. Erwin Cabrera and Darien
Hunt as the 2021 award recipients.
These awards honor individuals and/or organizations that have made exceptional contributions
to enhancing and supporting diversity, equity and inclusion within the Farmingdale
State College community. The awards are intended to recognize that a diverse campus
community enhances our institutional excellence by broadening and strengthening the
college's mission of teaching, learning and scholarship.
Dr. Cabrera is outstanding example of diversity, equity, and inclusion. He serves
as the Director of the Research Alignment Mentorship (RAM) Program. This program
provides mentored research and project-based learning experiences to undergraduate
students from first generation, historically underrepresented and/or low-become backgrounds.
Additionally, Erwin is the past co-chair of the FSC Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Advisory Board. Currently, he is a member of the FSC Affirmative Action Committee.
His exampled dedication to equity-mindedness illustrates that there are both strength
and beauty in diversity.
Darrien Hunt has a passion for equity, empowerment, and equal opportunity — a commitment
that led him to establish a chapter of the NAACP at FSC. Hunt graduated from FSC in
the Spring with a BS in Computer Programming and Information Systems. During his time
at FSC, Hunt was a member of Epsilon Pi Tau Honor Society and a Collegiate Science
and Technology Entry Program student. Off campus, he was Criminal Justice Chair for
the NYS NAACP Youth and College Division and the 2020 Game Changer Youth and College
Service Award winner.
Congratulations to both!
