Each January, our campus joins communities across the nation in reflecting on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His leadership in the Civil Rights Movement reshaped the United States, advancing a vision of justice, dignity, and equality that continues to guide our shared work today.
Dr. King championed nonviolent action as a powerful force for social change. His commitment to confronting injustice with courage and compassion remains a model for how we engage with one another; in our classrooms, in our community, and in the world.
MLK Day is more than a commemoration,it is a call to action. The holiday was established after years of advocacy led by activists, including Coretta Scott King, underscoring the importance of persistence in the pursuit of equity. Today, many recognize this day as "a day on, not a day off,"encouraging service, learning, and community engagement in the spirit of Dr. King's work.
As a campus dedicated to inclusion and belonging, we honor Dr. King by continuing the ongoing work of building a community where every member is valued, heard, and empowered. His legacy reminds us that progress is possible, and that each of us has a role in shaping a more just and equitable future.
