Hispanic Heritage Month, observed from September 15 to October 15, is a time to honor the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. This celebration began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week and was later expanded to a month-long observance in 1988, recognizing the growing impact and influence of Hispanic communities in shaping our nation.

The dates are significant: September 15 marks the independence anniversaries of five Latin American countries, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, followed by Mexico on September 16 and Chile on September 18. These milestones remind us of the shared struggles for freedom and identity across the Americas.

At FSC, we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month to:

-Honor Diversity: Our campus thrives because of the rich cultural traditions and perspectives that Hispanic and Latinx communities bring.
-Promote Inclusion: Recognizing these contributions helps create a sense of belonging for all members of our community.
-Educate and Inspire: Through events, discussions, and cultural experiences, we learn from one another and strengthen our commitment to equity.
This month is more than a celebration, it’s an opportunity to reflect on the values of unity, resilience, and cultural pride that enrich our campus and society.

Join us in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by attending upcoming events, engaging in conversations, and embracing the vibrant traditions that make our community stronger.
