Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Celebrated from September 15 - October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month honors the rich culture, history, and contributions of Americans with roots in the Caribbean, Spain, Mexico, Central, and South America. It was first established in 1968 by President Lyndon B. Johnson and initiated on September 15th because it is the anniversary of the independence of many Central American countries.
The term Hispanic or Latino, or the more recent term Latinx refers to a person's culture or origin-regardless of race. According to the 2020 Census form, people were counted as Hispanic or Latino or Spanish if they could identify as having Mexican, Mexican American, Chicano, Puerto Rican, Cuban, or another Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin.
Hispanic and Latino Americans have historically advanced humankind through groundbreaking contributions that range from entertainment technology to lifesaving medical technologies.
