August marks a significant celebration of entrepreneurship, economic empowerment, and resilience within the Black community as the US observes National Black Business Month. This annual observance, which has gained much prominence and recognition over the years, traces its roots back to a dedicated effort to uplift and support Black-owned businesses.
Despite the obstacles put in front of them, Black people have been establishing their own businesses since the late 1700s. With the onset of emancipation, Black-owned businesses really began to thrive between 1900 to 1930, which is known as the "golden age" of Black entrepreneurship.
FSC encourages you to support Black-owned businesses in your communities and review a list of important organizations below dedicated to promoting growth and success within the black community.
