In recognition of Poverty Awareness Month, it is imperative to acknowledge that over 40 million Americans are living in poverty. According to the United Nations Social Policy and Development Division, several determinants behind this astounding statistic are linked to social discrimination and exclusion, disabilities, hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education, social services and resources. Although poverty is a complex social issue, there are numerous ways to significantly contribute towards making a positive difference. Donating, developing a group based fund, and or becoming involved in one of the many non-profit charities is compassionate and giving approach. America's Charities lists multiple agencies dedicated to eradicating poverty and assisting those in need.
