Throughout the year, and especially during the month of January we celebrate the life and profound accomplishments of one of the most influential figures of our time. As an instrumental civil rights activist, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. established immeasurable change through leading and paving the way for a more equitable future.
March on Washington, the inception of his “I Have A Dream Speech,” is considered to be the single most defining moment in the history of the American civil rights movement and a factor in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. As an advocate and pioneer for non-violent protest, he conducted a peaceful political rally for freedom and jobs, intended to illustrate the injustices Black Americans continued to face across the country.
MLK day is more than a day off, it is looked upon as a day to volunteer and give back to communities and happens to be the only federal holiday that calls for a day of service. Outlined below are several Community-based Service idea links to think about becoming involved in.
