Student Spotlight

EOP 2020 Success Story

The department of Academic Support & Access Programs applauds the extraordinary accomplishments of EOP fall 2020 graduate, Aesron Jeremiah.  A dedicated and notably recognized EOP student; Aesron was most recently selected as of one of 45 EOP students statewide honored with the Norman R. McConney Jr. Award for Student Excellence.  Now in its second year, the award recognizes outstanding EOP students for their academic excellence and strength in overcoming significant personal obstacles throughout their lives.  As a recipient of this prestigious award, Aesron was also chosen to be the student speaker at the award ceremony.

Since high school, Aesron has been devoted to his studies and the pursuit of higher education.  Prior to his admission to FSC through EOP, Aesron was a long-time participant in our Smart Scholars Early College High School.  Through this program, he earned a total of 16 college credits while attending high school by completing FSC courses on Saturday mornings through a partnership with NYC Department of Education.

In fall 2020, Aesron earned a bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, and Society, with a minor in aviation administration. Aesron plans to join the military and pursue his dream of becoming an aeronautical engineer.  He has achieved much success while overcoming a lifetime of adversity, including homelessness, with an unwavering and optimistic outlook on his future.  He is a role model and inspiration to us all.  As the student speaker for the EOP award, and during prior speaking engagements, Aesron encouraged students to acquire assistance through traditional and secondary support systems such as college counselors, specialized student-centered programs, and like-minded peers. His message was meant to encourage others to stay strong, focused and confident.

After demonstrating strong character, the will to thrive, and serving as role model for others, Aesron proved that his journey through life could propel him into a distinguished college graduate and future professional.

We are all very proud of his accomplishments and excited for his bright future.
