In Recognition of Trudy A. Phillips
Trudy is a treasured professor and notable member of the Academic Support & Access Programs family for numerous years. She is admired by her students, staff, and faculty alike for her collaborative support and devoted instruction to both the Smart Scholars Early College Program 2011-2016 & EOP’s Summer Program 2015-2019.
We would like to congratulate you on your recent retirement from Farmingdale State College!
Trudy’s compassionate nature of reinforcing encouragement and inspiration combined with her exceptional method of teaching has prepared students with substantial knowledge and beneficial skills for a prosperous college future.
Trudy has expressed “It has been an honor to have been part of both programs.” “At FSC… I’ve enjoyed teaching each one of my students and working with great Colleagues as well!”
One of her greatest challenges was not having more time to spend with the students. After class many stayed and asked additional questions, excited to explore and expand on topics discussed. Each student was determined and eager to thrive, while focused on becoming accustomed to studying on a college campus.
Gaining the opportunity of being taught in a college environment strengthened matured behavior and afforded a transitional platform in preparation for college life. Moreover, Trudy enjoyed observing them grow as students: one of her infamous and well used quotes was “Anticipate the good, so that you may enjoy it.” (African Proverb from Ethiopia). Similarly, her class discussions included “positive anticipation...believing and seeing the assured outcome.” Essentially, they left class with a newfound knowledge that once the work is applied, they could anticipate successful achievement.
The Department of Academic Support & Access Program wishes you much happiness as you embark on a well-deserved new chapter in life!
