Criminal Justice

Tino Posillico

Associate Professor 10 Months Email Ward Hall, Room 303
Post Doctoral Research and Employment 1985- 1997

Dr. Posillico’s Academic and Professional expertise and specialization are in computational and digital data statistical analysis and computational modeling and mapping of research data from advanced prototype systems. Data acquisition was performed by experimental spectroscopic laser-based probes that remotely diagnose chemical, physical and electrical properties of various compounds and matter with unknown nature. Data Analytics and Data Mapping research were performed at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, Polytechnic University of New York, New York University, General Applied Science Laboratories, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Aerojet General, Queensland University (Australia) and Brookhaven National Laboratories.

During this time period, Dr. Posillico performed contractual Classified Need to Know (CNTK) data analysis and modeling for US Army ballistics studies; US Navy data analysis for submarine warfare and NASA and US Dept of Defense data analysis for advanced space-based vehicles with advanced tracking and security systems. A mandated requirement of all of Dr. Posillico’s CNTK Classified positions was the extensive training and field work deployment of intelligence protocols, intelligence operations, countermeasures and surveillance to safeguard all of the classified data and analysis outcomes.  As Project Manager, these intelligence protocols and countermeasures were implemented, supervised and directed by Dr. Posillico to protect and detect breaches of the sensitive domestic and international databases and analysis from both domestic criminal sources and international agents especially when he was traveling overseas with this database and analysis collection.  Dr. Posillico employed Tempest C equipment and protocols that supported the interdiction of illegal domestic surveillance and subsequent identification of foreign agents illegally collecting classified data.

Academic Employment at State University of New York (SUNY)
Computer Systems Department 1997 – 2005

Dr. Posillico began teaching part time for the Computer Systems Departments at Hofstra University in Fall of 1995, SUNY Old Westbury in Fall 1997 and at SUNY Farmingdale in Fall 1998. He was hired as a Visiting Professor at FSC in Fall 1999 and then hired as a tenure track faculty member in the Computer Systems Department in Fall 2000 where he taught courses in Data Base Analysis and Design, Data Mapping, Logic Design, Advanced Computer Programming, Digital Networking, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, Digital Security and Digital Lab Operations.  Dr. Posillico used his professional expertise in C, C++, Unix, Java, and Perl to develop curricula in Data Analysis and Communications and Applied Programming for CS students. He used PHP and Python for student labs to run and beta-test small scale adaptive machine learning codes and artificial intelligence demonstrations.

In 2003, Dr. Posillico established an agreement with CISCO Systems to create an Academic Academy offering CISCO courses at FSC for college credit in the Computer Systems Dept. He authored and taught 4 advanced courses in Computer Networking and Security that allowed students for the first time to become trained in CISCO Computer and Networking Certification and at the same time apply those courses for 12 credits towards their Computer Programming and Information Systems BS Degree. This special Academy was fully approved as an academic program by FSC and continues to serve students in the Computer Systems Dept today. Dr. Posillico was appointed as the Director of the CISCO Academy and also became the founding Director of the Institute for Networking Systems Technologies and Education Programs (INSTEP) which was an umbrella Institute at FSC that housed the CISCO Academy and which fostered further co-operative agreements with CISCO and other Computer/Digital industries and professionals. During this time, Dr. Posillico was also appointed as the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) Faculty Advisor for Computer Systems students.

Criminal Justice Department and Center for Criminal Justice Studies 2005 – Present

By special arrangement with the President of FSC Jonathan Gibralter, Dr. Posillico was transferred to the Dept of Criminal Justice to assist and advance the technology development of the department in areas of criminal data analytics and mapping, cyber and digital crime prevention, intelligence operations and analysis as well as domestic/international security operations and countermeasures.

To facilitate these development efforts in the targeted areas, Dr. Posillico co-authored the new BS Degree in Law Enforcement Technologies in 2009 and co-authored the new BS Degree in Police, Courts and Corrections in 2014. The courses that Dr. Posillico specifically researched, developed and authored were CRJ 406 Crime Analysis and Mapping, CRJ 374 Intelligence Operations, CRJ 380 Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, CRJ 444 Intelligence Analysis, CRJ 307 Criminal Justice Database Operation and the CRJ 115, 217, 218 Computer Forensics sequence. These programs and their respective courses were fully reviewed and approved at FSC by the Criminal Justice Curriculum Committee, the Campus Curriculum Committee, the Dean, the Provost, the President, and then approved by the NYS Dept of Education.

During 2013 to 2017, Dr. Posillico was appointed to the Long Island STEM Hub Regional Industry Council (RIC) for Homeland Security housed at the New York State Morrelly Center  for Homeland Security funded by New York State, and subsequently designated co-Director in late 2013 of this Council. The President and Executive Officers of SUNY Farmingdale – Hubert Keen, Veronica Henry and Henry Sikorsky, respectively---were also members of the STEM HUB.  As Co-Director, Dr. Posillico was responsible for developing academic and educational research in Homeland Security, Cyber Crime, Data Security and Digital Investigations that could be applied to student internships and career opportunities. As part of his responsibilities, Dr. Posillico taught seminars to students and as well as Police and Law Enforcement Professionals from Nassau and Suffolk County Police Departments and other downstate Law Enforcement agencies.

In 2008, Dr. Posillico created Kappa Chi, the Farmingdale State College Chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma —the National Criminal Justice Honor Society.  Since that time Dr. Posillico, as Kappa Chi Faculty Advisor has assisted over 225 Criminal Justice Students to achieve Kappa Chi membership and provided internship and career opportunities in criminal justice for member students.
