Faculty Civic Discourse Training
Faculty Civic Discourse in person training by Constructive Dialogue Insitute.
Farmingdale State College is strengthening its commitment to civic discourse by equipping
its community
with shared, research grounded dialogue skills. CDI will support Farmingdale in meeting
its SUNY civic
discourse requirement through the civic discourse training provided through the Office
of Community and Civic Engagement.
Beginning with targeted faculty training in spring 2026, this workshop will provide
practical tools for
guiding challenging conversations and fostering healthy classroom dialogue. As learning
expands across
campus, Farmingdale will build a sustainable culture where constructive dialogue is
expected, supported,
and consistently practiced.
This two-hour workshop will help faculty explore the psychological and moral roots
of our
ideological differences in a time of growing polarization. Through interactive exercises
and
evidence-based insights, participants will learn how cognitive biases and moral values
shape our
views and how understanding these forces can help us start to bridge divides.
